Ladakh Secures 8.75 Cr Boost for Water Projects

New Delhi, May 4: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday met Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil in New Delhi and discussed ongoing water conservation initiatives in the Union Territory.

 

During the meeting, the LG briefed the Minister about the recently launched “Him Sarovar” project, aimed at harvesting snowmelt to ensure long-term water security in Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem. The Union Minister appreciated the initiative and assured full Central support to strengthen such efforts.

 

The LG also thanked the Centre for sanctioning Rs 8.75 crore for water-related projects in Ladakh, terming it a significant boost to the region’s conservation infrastructure.

 

Meanwhile, the Jal Shakti Minister accepted an invitation to visit Ladakh and review the projects on the ground. He also assured that a team of experts will soon be deputed to assess ongoing works and recommend advanced strategies for sustainable water management and livelihood development in the region.

 

The meeting is seen as a key step towards enhancing Ladakh’s resilience against water scarcity through innovative and climate-adaptive solutions.
