Srinagar, Jan 12: Kashmir Medical College and Hospital, Sempora, Srinagar on Monday organised a free mega medical camp, which was attended by over 1,000 people. During the camp, free medical consultations were provided, along with free medicines and diagnostic tests.
From early morning, long queues of patients were seen in the hospital as people from different areas turned up to seek medical treatment and benefited from the camp.
During the free medical camp, specialized doctors across multiple departments including General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Paediatrics, Diagnostics, Pathology, and Gynae & Obstetrics were available for the patients.
Insha S. Qazi, Managing Director said the response from the public was highly encouraging adding that the state-of-the-art hospital is committed to community health.
“I am happy to see such a large turnout, with people availing free treatment, consultations and diagnostic tests. All our laboratories and departments are now fully functional, which made it possible to provide comprehensive healthcare services during the camp,” she said.
“This is a significant achievement for us as we are committed to serving the community. We have received tremendous support from the public, witnessed an impressive patient footfall this time, and the positive feedback from patients has been truly motivating,” she said.
Tausif Ahmad, Chairperson of the hospital said that all diagnostic tests during the camp were conducted free of cost and medicines were also distributed among patients.
“We have started OPD services, laboratories, radiology and some IPD services, and we are continuously improving facilities. We have a team of highly experienced doctors,” he said.
Tausif Ahmad further said that the institute is expecting approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the MBBS batch for the academic session 2026–27.
“Our vision is to develop a 1,000-bedded hospital with an annual intake of 150 MBBS students. At present, nearly 600 beds are ready and the hospital is expected to become operational soon. CT scan services will be started shortly, and the blood bank is ready; we are awaiting its licence,” he added.
He said the focus of the institute is to provide affordable healthcare to the general public. “We do not want to burden people with high charges. OPD services have already started with a nominal fee of just Rs 50, and diagnostic tests are being provided at affordable rates,” he said.
Emphasising the institute’s commitment to community service, Tausif Ahmad said they aim to regularly organise free medical camps so that people across Kashmir can benefit. “We have already prepared a schedule for such outreach programmes,” he added.
Patients who attended the camp expressed satisfaction and appreciation over the quality and efficiency of the healthcare services provided.
