Jammu, Feb 20: The Government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that several areas of Kangan Constituency are facing inadequate drinking water supply due to depletion of original sources and prolonged dry conditions.
The information was provided in response to an Un-Starred Question tabled by MLA Mian Mehar Ali, who sought details regarding the status of water supply to Kachnambal, Rezu Pati, Tunnel Pati, Hari Ganwan, Sumbal, Khudhar Wussan and Upper Waliwar, and the steps being taken to improve the situation.
Replying to the query, the Government said that the existing water supply to Kachnambal has become inadequate due to depletion of the original source at Hariganiwan. It added that to augment the supply, the Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Kachnambal–Hariganiwan, Wussan Barwulla is being executed under the UT Capex programme, with Wanghth Nallah identified as the source.
The Government informed that major components of the scheme, including a 0.20 MGD Rapid Sand Filtration Plant, Pumping Station and two Service Reservoirs, have been completed up to about 90 percent. The raw water main has been completed fully, while the supply main, sub-main and distribution network have achieved nearly 70 percent progress. The scheme is expected to ensure water supply as per norms in terms of quality and quantity upon completion.
Regarding Rezu Pati, Tunnel Pati, Hari Ganwan and Sumbal, the Government said these areas are presently dependent on Gitchkhudan/Sondab Nallah and a local spring at Tangpathri. However, due to prolonged dry spells, the discharge from these sources has reduced. It expressed hope that recent precipitation would improve the situation.
In Khudhar Wussan, water is being supplied through Chattergul Nallah (Bremshar Nallah). About 13 households located at higher elevations are facing inadequate supply due to contour-related constraints.
