Jammu, Jan 26: Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour at the Waqf Office, Jammu. The event was marked by the unfurling of the national flag by Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Waqf Board and Minister of State, J&K, in the presence of dignitaries, board members, religious scholars, and socio-political activists.
Ashok Koul, State General Secretary (Organisation) of BJP, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by Board Members Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem and Syed Mohammad Haqani, prominent Imam-o-Khateebs, social and political activists from Jammu Province, along with officers and employees of the Waqf Board.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi highlighted the importance of Republic Day in shaping India as a strong, sovereign, and progressive nation. She called upon citizens to uphold the principles of the Constitution and contribute responsibly to nation-building, social harmony, and inclusive development.
The Waqf Chairperson also provided a detailed update on the remarkable progress of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board over the past three and a half years. She recalled that the organisation, which once struggled with basic operational challenges like timely salary payments, has now transformed into a self-sustaining, professionally managed institution.
“The Board has seen significant improvements in revenue generation, management of Waqf properties, and resource utilisation for public welfare. Special focus has been placed on upgrading shrine infrastructure, developing essential amenities, and ensuring dignity, cleanliness, and convenience for devotees—long-pending facilities that had remained neglected for decades,” she said.
Dr Andrabi further highlighted efforts to strengthen transparency, improve governance, enhance staff welfare, and undertake development projects aimed at preserving religious heritage while adapting to modern needs. This renewed emphasis on accountability and service quality has helped restore public confidence in the institution.
The celebration also featured the felicitation of top performers across various categories, recognizing dedication, efficiency, and commitment to public service. The recognition was appreciated by employees and attendees alike as a morale-boosting initiative.
The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation of the resolve to work for societal welfare, protect Waqf assets, and ensure the continued progress of the institution, guided by the principles of the Constitution of India.
