Light rain in plains, snowfall in higher reaches

Srinagar, Dec 04: Parts of Kashmir on Friday received rain while higher reaches experienced fresh spells of light snowfall causing dip in temperatures.  However, the Meteorological department has forecast dry weather till Monday.

Deputy Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that isolated parts of valley received light rain and higher snowfall till Friday late evening.

“Weather will remain clear and dry till Monday and thereafter there is a forecast of a two day wet spell in Kashmir,” he said.

The MeT officials said light snowfall was reported on higher reaches of ski resort Gulmarg, Zojila, Peer Ki Galli and other parts. Plains including Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara, Kulgam, Shopian and other parts of valley received light rain till late evening leading to the dip in normal temperatures.

As per weathermen, Srinagar recorded maximum temperatures of 10.3 degree calculus on Friday while minimum temperature recorded was minus 1.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday night.

The Ski-resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district remained the coldest station of the Valley recording minus 2.2 degrees Celsius and maximum 7.0 °C.

While maximum temperatures in Jammu city settled at 23.1 degree Celsius and minimum 11.1 degree Celsius.

Following the fresh spell of snowfall along Peer Ki Galli, the traffic on historic Mughal road connecting Poonch district was closed on Friday.

As per the advisory issued by the traffic department for Saturday, there will be one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Jammu on highway.

 On Sonamarg-Gumari road only one way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil will be allowed on the highway after accessing the weather condition.
