Calls for improving conviction rates in NDPS, terrorism cases
Srinagar, Apr 15: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V.K. Birdi (IPS) on Wednesday chaired a crime review meeting of the Kashmir Zone at PCR Kashmir here, attended by all range DIGs, district SSPs, JDP ZPHQ, and other senior officers.
The IGP conducted a comprehensive review of crime across the zone, followed by detailed presentations from district SSPs outlining measures undertaken to curb criminal activities within their respective jurisdictions. "Discussions primarily focused on the disposal of general crime cases, along with issues about NDPS, UAPA, absconders, and other related offences," a police spokesperson said in a statement issued here. "Preventive actions initiated under various laws, as well as pending inquest proceedings, were also examined."
The Kashmir Police Chief commended district chiefs for their sustained efforts in crime prevention and stressed the importance of enhancing the quality of investigations. He called for improving conviction rates by developing a strong follow-up mechanism, particularly in cases related to narcotics and terrorism.
Birdi also reviewed the progress of the "Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan" across the zone, taking stock of enforcement measures, including the attachment of properties identified as proceeds of crime in NDPS cases and the arrest of drug peddlers. He evaluated various awareness drives and anti-drug rallies aimed at sensitising the youth against drugs. He directed all district SSPs to further intensify efforts and expedite legal action to dismantle drug networks effectively.
While reviewing the security framework, Birdi directed officers to intensify area domination drives and strengthen night patrolling, especially in vulnerable locations, to reinforce the overall security grid.
Concluding the meeting, IGP Kashmir reaffirmed the commitment of the J&K Police towards maintaining peace and security in the region, urging officers to ensure transparency, accountability, and prompt disposal of cases to effectively safeguard the rights and safety of the public.
