I-T Dept organises tax awareness program in Bandipora

Srinagar, Jan 08: The Income Tax Department conducted a tax awareness programme at the Mini Secretariat Bandipora, aimed at educating stakeholders about compliance and recent changes in tax regulations. The event was led by Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (OSD), Srinagar, Shakil Ahmad Ganie, a 2016 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service.

During the programme, a presentation was delivered by Abhineet Jhorar, Income Tax Officer Srinagar, highlighting the importance of timely compliance and accurate declaration of income. He also briefed attendees on upcoming amendments to the Income Tax Act, 2025, which will come into effect from April 1, 2026.

In his address, Shakil Ahmad Ganie highlighted the role of income tax in national development and assured participants that any grievances would be addressed promptly. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of timely advance tax payments and accurate income reporting.

The programme was attended by local traders, including representatives from the District Traders Association, Contractors Association, Private Diagnostic Centres Association, and others. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which key provisions of the Income Tax Act and the recent changes were explained with the help of the presentation.

Officials from various government departments also participated, including State Taxes Officer Sajad Ahmad and District Minerals Officer Ghulam Nabi Pintoo.

Ajay Sanghwan, Senior Inspector, proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the cooperation of the district administration. Shakil Ahmad Ganie also thanked DC Bandipora, Madam Indu Kanwal, for her support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.

In her address, DC Bandipora encouraged attendees to adopt effective tax planning and sound financial management in their professional and economic activities, emphasising the importance of compliance for sustainable growth.
