Police fines 699, lodges 22 FIRs against COVID norms violations

Srinagar, May 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday penalised over 600 persons and arrested 30 for violating COVID-19 safety rules and restrictions.

A statement said, “During last 24 hours, Police have arrested 30 persons, lodged 22 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 95,600 from 699 people for violating the guidelines/rules throughout Kashmir valley.

Besides, 64 vehicles were also seized in Budgam, Baramulla and Shopian for violating guidelines/restrictions and indulging in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, it said.

The statement said since the outbreak of the second wave of coronavirus, police have enhanced its efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious disease.

“Slew of measures including restrictions under section 144 of CrPC have been put into place to contain the spread of COVID-19,” the statement said.

Keeping in view the record surge in daily cases across the Kashmir Valley, he said the police also enhanced the efforts to implement the COVID guidelines/SOPs strictly.

Police have also sought the cooperation of people in containing the spread of coronavirus by following the SOPs/guidelines/protocols.
