Heavy vehicles barred on Tangmarg–Gulmarg road amid snowfall forecast

Srinagar, Dec 30: In view weather forecast, the authorities in Sub-Division Gulmarg have issued a traffic advisory restricting the movement of heavy vehicles and vehicles without anti-skid chains on Tangmarg–Gulmarg road during snowfall and icy conditions.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gulmarg said in view of the weather forecast, snowfall is expected in Tangmarg–Gulmarg area, which is likely to cause slippery conditions.

“It has become imperative to adopt precautionary measures in the interest of public safety and for ensuring smooth regulation of traffic,” the SDM said.

The SDM ordered that all vehicles operating on Tangmarg–Gulmarg road shall compulsorily use anti-skid chains during snowfall and icy conditions. Additionally, the movement of heavy vehicles on the said road has been strictly prohibited until further orders. Any violation will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tangmarg and Tehsildar Tangmarg have been directed to enforce the order and take all necessary measures for effective traffic management.

The advisory will remain in force until further orders, subject to improvement in weather and road conditions. The general public has also been advised to contact the designated control room for assistance, if required.
