Budgam, Jan 27: Authorities in central Kashmir’s Budgam district carried out rescue and restoration operations following heavy snowfall, shifting two pregnant women to the District Hospital Budgam and facilitating the transportation of two deceased persons to their native villages. Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khansahib, Jahangir Ahmad, said that timely assistance was provided to two pregnant women who were safely evacuated from snowbound areas and admitted to the district hospital. “To ensure public convenience, all departments have been directed to share their contact numbers in the public domain so that people can directly contact PHE, PDD, R&B, Health, MED, and PMGSY departments,” he said, adding that all major roads in the Khansahib sub-division have been restored. Ahmad said that electricity supply has been fully restored in most areas, while work is underway in a few remaining areas, which are expected to be restored by tomorrow. “Our men and machinery are engaged in snow clearance operations round the clock, including night hours, to restore all link roads at the earliest,” he added. SDM Chadoora, Primroz Bashir, said that both main and link roads in Chadoora and Charar-i-Shareef areas have been cleared. He informed that Charar-i-Shareef has 16 power feeders, of which 14 are fully functional, while two are partially operational. In Chadoora, out of 41 feeders, 39 are fully functional, and two are partially restored. Bashir said the administration also facilitated the transportation of two deceased persons to their native villages—one from Srinagar and another from Chadoora sub-division—so that families could perform last rites. “Every possible support was extended to the bereaved families,” he said. He added that emergency medical assistance was provided to patients in need, enabling them to reach nearby hospitals and health centres without difficulty. SDM Beerwah, Taufeeq Ahmad Ghazi, said that all roads in Magam and Narbal areas have been fully restored. “In Beerwah tehsil, about 95 per cent of roads have been cleared, while 75 per cent of roads in Khag tehsil are now accessible. The remaining roads will be cleared by tomorrow,” he said. Ghazi further said that electricity supply in the Beerwah sub-division has largely been restored, with a few areas still affected. “These areas will also be fully restored by tomorrow,” he added. Authorities said restoration work is continuing on a priority basis to ensure normalcy across the district.
