Jammu, Dec 19: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta inaugurated a three-day painting exhibition titled “Memory Imprints” by noted artist Milan Sharma at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery, Kala Kendra, Jammu. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, the LG said Ladakh is witnessing several developmental projects, particularly in infrastructure and road connectivity. He said the Union Territory is investing funds from its own resources but is facing certain challenges, especially in land acquisition. “We have taken up these issues with the Government of India, the Home Minister and the Finance Minister. The Centre is extending all possible support for the development of Ladakh, and I would like to thank the Government of India for its cooperation,” Gupta said. Highlighting Ladakh’s focus on renewable energy, the LG said the UT is emerging as a major hub for clean energy initiatives. “Just yesterday, we established the world’s first thermal power plant. Solar energy projects are being developed in Pang, and ONGC is also working on geothermal projects there. In the coming time, Ladakh will be able to contribute significantly to India’s power needs,” he added. On the ‘Celebrate Ladakh’ concept and the recently launched calendar, Gupta said the initiative aims to promote year-round tourism in the region. “Ladakh is not just for four or six months. We want tourism to flourish throughout the year, and necessary facilities will be provided to attract more visitors,” he said. Responding to questions about discussions with the Union Home Minister, LG Gupta said deliberations are underway based on the draft proposals submitted earlier and concrete talks are expected to begin soon. Commenting on governance and policy matters, the LG said Ladakh, being a new Union Territory, naturally requires strong support from the Central Government. “Whatever steps are being taken are in the larger interest of the country and the people of Ladakh,” he said. The exhibition “Memory Imprints” showcases a series of artworks reflecting personal memories and artistic expressions, drawing appreciation from art lovers and visitors at the gallery.
