Srinagar, Jan 29: In view of the academic disruptions caused by prolonged spells of inclement weather and war like situation last year, the J&K government Thursday announced a 15 per cent syllabus relaxation for the students of Class 10, 11 and 12 of the Summer Zone appearing in the upcoming annual regular examinations of the Jammu division.
The announcement was made by Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, who stated that the decision was taken after carefully assessing the situation and taking feedback from students, parents and other stakeholders.
“The department was fully aware of the challenges faced by students. Feedback from parents and other stakeholders was taken into consideration, and necessary measures were adopted to address students’ concerns,” Education Minister said.
She said that the August floods had severely disrupted the normal functioning of schools, adversely impacting syllabus completion. “This step will help maintain educational balance and ensure that Summer Zone students are not placed at any unfair or disadvantageous position,” ltoo said.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, the Minister said sustained efforts are being made to upgrade infrastructure and improve the academic environment in public institutions.
She noted that the recent results of Classes 10 and 12 in Kashmir and Winter Zone areas of Jammu reflect a marked improvement in the academic ecosystem of government schools. The Education Minister said the government is focused on providing an enabling environment to help students achieve their academic aspirations.
“Every effort is being made to transform government schools into centres of academic excellence,” she said . Outlining the long-term vision, she said the government aims to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a knowledge-based economy by developing students into skilled human resources equipped with modern education and vocational competencies.
This, she said, would require continuous enhancement of teachers’ skills and augmentation of educational infrastructure. The Minister wished students success in their upcoming board examinations and advised them to work diligently. The annual examinations are scheduled to begin on February 17 for Class 10, February 23 for Class 12 and February 28 for Class 11.
