Srinagar, Nov 25: The diagnostic facilities at GMC Rajouri are set to improve as the government is set to install an MRI and a Cath Lab to boost cardiac and advanced imaging services in the region.
Officials of the Health Department said the department had earlier proposed to provide an MRI (3 Tesla) facility for the new medical college at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore under the Machinery and Equipment (M&E) head.
“However, necessary intimation was conveyed to Managing Director, J&K Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL), for initiating procurement and installation as per financial and procurement procedures,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, officials said GMC Rajouri has been included under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) Scheme for installation of a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit, along with other high-end diagnostic and medical equipment.
“To avoid duplication and ensure optimal use of resources, it is now proposed that the MRI earlier proposed under the M&E head may be procured for GMC Doda instead, since GMC Rajouri will receive MRI under PMJVK. This will allow reallocation of funds to other priority medical infrastructure,” the official said.
Regarding the Cath Lab facility, the department has proposed to install one Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at an estimated cost of Rs 12.50 crore during FY 2025–26 under the M&E head. They added that an amount of Rs 9.375 crore has already been released to JKMSCL.
Officials said the Cath Lab will enhance cardiology and emergency care at GMC Rajouri, ensuring access to critical cardiac interventions and reducing patient referrals to Jammu and Srinagar.
JKMSCL authorities have been directed to initiate procurement as per codal and procurement procedures, ensuring quality, transparency, and timely completion within the financial year.
The establishment of both these advanced diagnostic facilities—MRI (1.5 Tesla) and Cath Lab—will significantly strengthen tertiary care services in the hilly and border district of Rajouri under the Government Medical College system.
Officials at the Associated Hospital of GMC Rajouri, a 400-bedded facility, said they have already submitted a plan to make space available for installing these vital machines once the procurement is completed.
