Ganderbal, Jan 7: Ganderbal Police, in coordination with the Forest Protection Force (FPF), on Wednesday seized 63 cubic feet of illicit construction timber during a joint operation in Wussan Kangan area of the district.
Officials said the action followed a credible input regarding the illegal transportation of timber. Acting swiftly, a joint team from both departments intercepted a mini load carrier bearing registration number JK16B-4440 during a naka checking operation.
During the search, officials recovered 63 cubic feet of Kairu timber from the vehicle. However, the driver managed to flee the spot, taking advantage of darkness.
The vehicle along with the seized timber has been taken into custody, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver. Further investigation in the matter has been initiated, officials added.
