Srinagar, Jan 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday said that swift and decisive action has been taken by the Uttarakhand Police in connection with the brutal assault on an 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller in the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand.
Following the incident, JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami raised the matter with the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth. The DGP informed the Association that the authorities had taken serious and stringent cognisance of the case and that immediate legal action had been initiated.
According to the DGP, an FIR bearing No. 26/2026 has been registered at Vikas Nagar Police Station against Sanjay Yadav and another individual under Sections 117(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). One of the accused has been arrested, while further legal proceedings are underway.
The DGP assured JKSA that the Uttarakhand Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards communal intimidation and violence. He emphasised that the strongest possible action would be taken against those found guilty to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri traders and residents in the state.
JKSA welcomed the prompt response by the Uttarakhand Police and reiterated its demand for strict action against the perpetrators to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. The Association also urged authorities across states to ensure the protection and dignity of Kashmiri students and traders working outside J&K.
