Urges admin, MLA, cadre support; seeks stronger emergency response
Srinagar, Apr 15: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday expressed grief over the drowning of two brothers, Majid Ahmad Malik and Shahid Ahmad Malik, residents of Jablipora, Bijbehara. The incident occurred in the Jhelum River at Padshahibagh in south Kashmir.
In his condolence message, Dr Farooq said, “I am deeply pained to learn about this tragedy. One of the brothers, Majid, was scheduled to be married in May. It is difficult to comprehend the grief the family is enduring. My condolences go out to the bereaved family during this time. May Allah grant them the strength to bear this loss, and may the departed souls rest in peace.”
Expressing concern over the recurrence of such incidents, Dr Farooq urged the district and divisional administration to strengthen and upgrade local disaster management and rescue systems to effectively respond to emergencies, including drowning incidents, fires, and floods.
He also appealed to the public to exercise caution while approaching rivers or engaging in activities near water bodies.
He further called upon MLA Bijbehara Dr Bashir Veeri and district authorities to extend all possible support to the bereaved family in their hour of grief.
Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah along with party MLAs Dr Bashir Veeri and Altaf Ahmad Wani visited the residence of the bereaved and offered prayers for the departed. They prayed for strength to the bereaved to bear the loss.
