Budgam Police crack down on drug trafficking in 2025

Budgam, Dec 31: Police in Budgam recorded significant achievements in 2025 through an intensive and sustained crackdown on drug trafficking across the district. Adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, the police in Budgam attached properties worth ₹3.69 crore under the NDPS Act, including eight residential houses, two shopping complexes, six kanals and one marla of land, and three vehicles. These assets were acquired from the proceeds of the illegal narcotics trade. During the year, police arrested 83 drug peddlers, detained 15 individuals under the PIT NDPS, and registered 58 FIRs under the NDPS Act. Contraband substances worth approximately ₹2.57 crore— including Charas, Ganja, cannabis, poppy straw, and heroin—were seized. Convictions were also secured against three accused persons in NDPS cases, sending a strong message against drug trafficking and reinforcing the firm resolve of J&K Police. Additionally, 46 kanals of illicit poppy and bhang cultivation were destroyed during special drives across the district. In accordance with legal procedures, police conducted a mass disposal drive of seized narcotics under the supervision of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee. A total of 210 kilograms and 781 grams of narcotic substances, seized in 34 NDPS FIRs and having an approximate market value of ₹1 crore, were destroyed during 2025. The contraband was disposed of strictly in compliance with Section 52-A of the NDPS Act at the Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit, IGC Lasipora, Pulwama, ensuring adherence to all prescribed legal and environmental norms.
