Srinagar,May 1:The Bharatiya Janata Party Jammu & Kashmir on Friday expressed serious concern over the growing housing challenges in the Kashmir region and called for immediate, structured intervention to develop modern housing colonies.
In a statement, party State spokesperson Er. Sahil Bashir Bhat highlighted the pressing need to address the widening gap between housing demand and available infrastructure. He noted that rapid population growth, urban expansion, and socio-economic transitions have placed unprecedented strain on existing residential facilities.
“Affordable and planned housing is no longer a long-term goal but an immediate necessity,” said Bhat. “A large section of the population continues to struggle with overcrowded living conditions, inadequate civic amenities, and escalating property costs.”
The J&K BJP emphasized that the development of well-planned housing colonies must be prioritized through a multi-pronged approach, including: Implementation of structured urban planning policies Promotion of public-private partnerships for faster execution Development of basic infrastructure such as water supply, sanitation, healthcare, and education facilities.
Introduction of targeted housing schemes for economically weaker sections and displaced families Adoption of environmentally sustainable construction practices.
Bhat further stated that such initiatives would not only address the immediate housing shortage but also stimulate economic growth, generate employment, and enhance the overall quality of life in the region.
