Says remark on social media an insult to people's mandate
Srinagar, May 4: Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Monday criticised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over a social media remark, accusing him of disrespecting democratic processes and the public mandate.
Sharma said the language used in the post amounted to an affront to voters, adding that election outcomes reflect the will of the people and must be respected. He demanded that the Chief Minister apologise, alleging that the remarks undermined the democratic choice of voters.
The BJP leader also took a swipe at Abdullah’s leadership, describing him as “detached” from governance and accusing him of focusing on personal pursuits rather than public issues. He further criticised the National Conference, calling it a regional party, while asserting the BJP’s broader national presence.
Responding to questions on electoral issues, Sharma defended the ongoing revision of voter lists, stating that only eligible voters should be included.
Reacting to voter list revisions, Sharma defended the Election Commission's move to remove ineligible names. "Why should a dead person or a Bangladeshi or Pakistani be in the voter list?" he asked.
He, however, clarified that the BJP intends to continue in its role as the opposition in Jammu and Kashmir and has no plans to form a government. KNS
