Srinagar, Jan 07: A delegation from Ladakh led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President, Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu, former CEC Leh Adv Tashi Gyalson and Nominated Councillor Adv Reyaz Khan met Union Minister for Health J.P. Nadda in New Delhi to highlight key health and medical concerns of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The delegation discussed several urgent issues related to the operationalisation and improvement of health institutions in the region.
The important demands raised during the meeting included the operationalisation of Ladakh Medical College with a temporary setup until the permanent building is completed. They also sought immediate approval for a Nursing College to improve trained health manpower across the UT.
The delegation further requested the early establishment of the State Allied Health Care Council (SAHCC) for better governance and regulation of allied health services. They also stressed the need for a separate State AIDS Control Society (SACS) for Ladakh to ensure better handling of HIV/AIDS-related programmes.
Another major demand placed before the minister was the establishment of a CGHS Wellness Centre in Leh or Kargil so that Central Government employees, pensioners, and their families in Ladakh can avail essential health benefits locally.
They also highlighted the work of Al-Reza Medical Wing, a charitable medical organisation in Kargil providing voluntary services to the needy, and urged the Ministry to extend support for its functioning.
The delegation thanked the Union Minister for listening to Ladakh’s concerns and hoped for continued support in addressing the region’s unique healthcare challenges.
