Srinagar, Apr 15 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V K Birdi said on Wednesday that in a move to dismantle the narco-terror network, police will expedite the attachment of properties acquired from drug proceeds and intensify night patrolling across the valley.

An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the IGP directed district Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to focus on strengthening the conviction rate in cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and terror offences during a crime review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir.

Officials made detailed presentations on the disposal of general crime cases, the status of investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and ongoing operations against absconders, he said.

Reviewing the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign), Birdi assessed the enforcement measures against drug peddlers and evaluated awareness drives aimed at weaning youth away from substance abuse. He called for a robust follow-up mechanism to improve judicial outcomes.

On the security front, the IGP ordered officers to intensify area domination drives and strengthen night patrolling in vulnerable locations to reinforce the overall security grid.

The IGP also urged officers to ensure transparency, accountability, and prompt disposal of cases to safeguard public rights and safety, the official added. (KNS)
