Srinagar, May 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday registered a disproportionate assets case against a senior KAS officer, accusing him of acquiring properties worth crores beyond his known sources of income.

According to officials, the ACB filed FIR No. 06/2026 against Zafar Iqbal (KAS), currently serving as Chief Accounts Officer in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar. He is a resident of Gursai in Mendhar area of Poonch district and is presently living in Bathindi, Jammu.

The case was registered after the ACB conducted a secret verification into allegations that the officer had amassed huge assets during his service at different postings.

Investigators said the verification revealed that the accused allegedly misused his official position to acquire movable and immovable properties worth crores in his own name and in the names of his family members and relatives.

Officials said a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was established against the officer, who had earlier served as Treasury Officer in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.

Following the findings, the ACB registered a case under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Central Jammu, and started a formal investigation.

During the investigation, the ACB obtained search warrants from the Court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu. Search operations were then carried out at multiple locations, including his residences in Bathindi, Jammu, Gursai in Mendhar, and his official residence in Sanat Nagar, Srinagar.

The ACB said several incriminating documents related to movable and immovable assets were recovered and seized during the raids.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
