Bribery tops with 24 traps

Srinagar, May 04: The war against corruption in Jammu and Kashmir has gained momentum, with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registering over 30 cases in the first four months of 2026.

According to details accessed by Rising Kashmir, a total of 32 cases have been registered by the ACB so far this year, with official figures revealing that 24 such cases are traps in which officials were caught demanding and accepting bribes.

Twin police stations, including ACB Srinagar and Udhampur, recorded seven cases each so far, while Police Station Central witnessed five registrations. Police Station ACB Jammu registered three cases, PS Rajouri filed five cases, and PS Anantnag saw four registrations. Police Station ACB Baramulla registered only one case so far, while no case has been registered in ACB Doda.

Besides bribery (24 cases), the other cases filed by the ACB include illegal mutation in revenue documents (3 cases), abuse of official position (3), disproportionate assets (1), and illegal appointment, regularisation, and promotion (1).

Jammu and Kashmir has been fighting a fight against corruption for several years. The ACB registered 78 corruption-related cases and secured convictions in seven cases during 2025. In 2024, 87 cases were registered by the bureau in the region.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Headquarters Building at Sidhra, Jammu, and ACB APKS Branch, Awantipora, in March this year, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called upon the bureau to ensure that each decision, investigation, and prosecution stands firm under scrutiny of the courts and must harness the authority granted by the nation's Constitution to expose injustice, eradicate corruption entirely, and earn the trust of the people.
