Srinagar, May 1 : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a Head Constable posted in Srinagar after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a complainant.
According to officials, the complaint was lodged with the ACB alleging that Head Constable Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, posted in District Srinagar, had demanded ₹15,000 to remove the complainant’s name from an accused list in FIR No. 09/2026 registered at Police Station Soura.
Following the complaint, ACB carried out a discreet verification. During this process, the official initially allegedly demanded ₹50,000, which was later negotiated and settled at ₹15,000.
After verification confirmed the allegation, ACB registered FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station ACB Srinagar on May 1, 2026, and initiated an investigation.
A trap team was then formed and laid a trap. The accused was allegedly caught red-handed near the District Police Lines, Srinagar, while accepting the bribe. The amount included ₹5,000 in cash and ₹10,000 through a cheque, which was recovered on the spot, officials said.
The ACB has said further investigation into the case is underway.
