Srinagar, Jan 06: Residents of ward no. 9 in Machikrand area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have expressed resentment over a 63 KVA power transformer that was installed a year ago but is yet to be made operational.
Locals said that while the transformer was installed to ease the electricity load in the area, it has remained non-functional as no low-tension (LT) lines have been connected and the unit has not been charged to date.
“The transformer was installed with much hope that it would reduce frequent power outages in our area. However, even after a year, it is lying idle without any LT connections,” a local resident said. “What is the purpose of installing a transformer if it is not made functional?”
Another resident said the delay has added to the woes of people, especially during winters. “We continue to face low voltage and frequent disruptions.
Authorities have given no explanation for the delay,” he added.
The residents have appealed to the MLA Uri Dr Sajjad Shafi and officials of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to intervene and ensure that the transformer is made functional at the earliest.
When contacted, Executive Engineer KPDCL Baramulla, Mohammad Amin Shah told Rising Kashmir that he will look into the matter.
