Srinagar, Apr 26: The Division of Animal Nutrition, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Kashmir, organized a series of farmer outreach programmes for the distribution of inputs in the form of feed ingredients/ raw materials and machines across the districts of Budgam, Bandipora, and Pulwama on 13th, 18th and 22nd April, 2026, respectively.
These programmes were conducted in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendras/ Line departments of Animal/Sheep Husbandry of the respective districts.
The initiatives were organized under the National Livestock Mission sponsored project entitled “Sustainable Livelihood Improvement of Resource-Poor Farmers through Livestock Productivity Augmentation by Standardization and Popularization of Value-Added Animal Feed Supplements in Kashmir Himalayas”, and sponsored by Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The programmes were specifically designed to enhance awareness and strengthen the technical skills of livestock farmers regarding the formulation and preparation of Multi-Nutrient Block (MNB) - a scientifically formulated feed supplement aimed at improving livestock nutrition, productivity, and overall farm sustainability.
During the events, MNB-making machines along with essential feed ingredients and raw materials were distributed free of cost to fifty livestock farmers in each district under the project, thereby enabling them to produce the feed supplement locally and economically.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yasir Afzal Beigh, Principal Investigator of the project, delivered a comprehensive hands-on demonstration on the formulation, preparation, and practical utilization of MNBs.
He emphasized the crucial role of balanced nutrition in improving livestock productivity and highlighted how adoption of such value-added feed technologies can significantly enhance the income and livelihood security of resource-poor farming households in the Kashmir Himalayas.
The Programme Coordinators of the respective Krishi Vigyan Kendras also addressed the gatherings and appreciated the proactive efforts of the Division of Animal Nutrition, FVSc & AH, SKUAST-Kashmir in bringing innovative livestock feeding technologies directly to farmers’ doorsteps.
They expressed gratitude for the Division’s dedicated and farmer-centric approach in addressing field-level nutritional challenges and strengthening the livestock sector in the region.
The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from livestock farmers, extension personnel, and officials of the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Departments, reflecting the growing interest of farmers in adopting scientific feeding practices for sustainable livestock development.
