 Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar on Wednesday issues advisory for general public and advised them to remain cautious and follow precautionary measures to deal with fraudsters using fake WhatsApp display picture to impersonate as high profile Government officers or dignitaries.

 
 
As per the police advisory, Fraudsters using fake WhatsApp Display Picture (DP) to impersonate as high profile Government Officers or Dignitaries.
 
MODUS OPERANDI OF FRAUDSTER:
 
Procure photo of the Government Officers from open source internet.
 
Create whatsapp account on virtual number or on fake SIM card.
 
Upload Government Officer'photo as display picture on the said whatsapp number.
 
Sends message to people demanding financial or administrative favours.
 
Ask users to transfer money or purchase online gift vouchers.
 
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
 
Don't reply the messages received from unknown Whatsapp users.
 
Don't transfer money or purchase online gift vouchers.
 
Don't share banking details like Credit card/Debit Card, OTP, CVV No.or any password on Whatsapp.
 
Don't install any remote access app.
 
Don't click on any suspicious link.
