Ramban Tunnel Collapse: 10 bodies recovered, rescue operation ends

A search team comprising Police and army, NDRF and SDRF had been combing through the debris of rocks since midnight of May 19 with operation suspended last night for around 12 hours due to relentless rains and fresh landslides.

Rescue operation launched to evacuate workers from the site of collapsed tunnel in Khoni Nallah concluded on Saturday evening after the bodies of all 10 missing persons were retrieved from beneath the debris.
 
The rescue operation was launched soon after the caving in of the tunnel late Thursday night.
 
The joint rescue operation was contacted by the Army, Police, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, Civil QRTs, and NHAI and machine operators to retrieve the 10 bodies from slide debris.
 
DC Ramban Musarat Islam, SSP Traffic NHW, Shabir Malik, SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma, SDM Ramsoo, Viqar Giri and several other senior officers personally monitored the rescue and search operation since its launch.
 
On 2nd day of the rescue operation, 9 bodies were recovered whereas 1 dead body was recovered yesterday by the rescue teams.
 
The Deputy Commissioner informed that on the directions of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, Rs.15 lakh compensation would be given to each of the next of the kin of the deceased by the construction company. The Lieutenant Governor has also announced Rs.1 lakh ex gratia each to the NoKs of the deceased from Relief Fund.
