Promoting women's health

Posted on Dec 26, 2021 | Author Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo

Not all illnesses and diseases are preventable, however many health problems share a core set of risk factors that can be affected by how women live their everyday lives. Five crucial practices that can help promote good health for women include:

Eating well

It is recommended that all women eat a balanced diet containing fruits, vegetables (including leafy greens), whole grains, lower-fat dairy products, and leaner meats or alternatives. Moreover, eating well helps your bodies to function well and resist disease.

Exercising daily

A minimum of 30 accumulated minutes of moderate exercise almost every day can improve your health significantly. Besides regular physical activity helps to maintain a healthy body weight, control cholesterol and blood pressure, and relieve stress. Moreover, aerobic activities such as brisk walking, jogging and swimming are best for strengthening the heart and lungs. And weight bearing activities strengthen muscles and bones.

Living smoke-free

Avoiding tobacco smoke or quitting smoking has tremendous health benefits; most scientists agree that smoking is the number one cause of preventable illness and disease. Quitting smoking improves your own health as well as the health of those around you.

Staying social

Being part of a supportive social circle of family and friends who care for and respect each other – protects against isolation and depression and can help improve your mood.

Avoiding illicit drugs and alcohol abuse

Many health problems are associated with the overuse or abuse of alcohol and/or illicit drugs. So, avoiding them is key to health promotion.
