Kargil, Apr 12: In a significant push to infrastructure development and youth-centric initiatives in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday launched a series of projects in Kargil, aimed at boosting urban amenities, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening rural governance in the frontier region.

The LG laid the foundation stone for two major public parks — Rgyal Khatoon Park and Sher Bagh Park — along the banks of the Suru River. The twin projects, to be developed over nearly six hectares at an estimated cost of ₹2.98 crore, will feature landscaped green spaces, walking tracks, water features, and essential public facilities, positioning them as key additions to Kargil’s urban landscape.

Officials said the twin projects will emerge as vital “green and blue assets” for Kargil, enhancing not only the town’s ecological balance but also its tourism appeal. With increasing focus on sustainable urban spaces, the parks are expected to provide much-needed leisure zones for residents while attracting visitors to the region.

Terming the occasion a “big day for the youth and entrepreneurs of Kargil,” Saxena also inaugurated a state-of-the-art Co-working Centre in the presence of local representatives Mohd Jaffer Akhoon and Mohd Haneefa Jan.

The facility, equipped with modern IT infrastructure and collaborative workspaces, is aimed at fostering innovation and strengthening the start-up ecosystem in Ladakh. It is expected to serve as a hub where young entrepreneurs can develop ideas, build networks, and transform concepts into viable business ventures.

“Entrepreneurship is not merely about setting up a business, but about innovation and finding solutions to contemporary challenges,” the LG said, underlining the immense potential of Ladakh’s youth. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to building an enabling ecosystem that encourages young people to become “job givers” rather than “job seekers,” aligning with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a parallel move to strengthen grassroots governance, Saxena inaugurated a Rural Development Complex and Resource Centre in Kargil. The integrated facility is designed to streamline rural planning, capacity building, and service delivery by bringing multiple departments under a single roof, thereby improving efficiency and accessibility for rural communities.

The LG also distributed rural skill training certificates among local youth, encouraging self-employment and community-driven growth. The initiative is expected to empower young individuals with practical skills, enabling them to contribute actively to the local economy.

Congratulating the people of Kargil, Saxena described the projects as a decisive step toward achieving the goals of “Rural Empowerment” and “Antyodaya.” He emphasized that the administration is committed to ensuring development with “speed, skill, and sensitivity,” focusing on inclusive growth and sustainable progress in Ladakh.

The initiatives collectively signal a renewed development thrust in Kargil, blending infrastructure expansion with opportunities for entrepreneurship and rural advancement, and reinforcing the Union Territory’s vision of holistic and people-centric growth.
