Srinagar, May 7: Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Srinagar on Thursday organized a Multi-Speciality Outreach Medical Camp at Kanikuch Abidal, Srinagar the Family Adoption Programme mandated by National Medical Commission.
The camp was inaugurated by Principal & Dean, GMC Srinagar Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah in the presence of Deputy Registrar Academics Prof. Dr. Saleem Itoo and Head, Department of Community Medicine, Prof. Dr. S. M. Salim Khan, faculty, DTO Srinagar Dr. Abdul Rouf, BMO Hazratbal Dr. Abdul Majeed Bhat, resident doctors and staff of block Hazratbal.
The extensive programme aimed to provide comprehensive preventive, promotive, diagnostic, and curative healthcare services to the local population at their doorstep.
Around 500 patients attended the medical camp and availed various healthcare services. Free services provided during the camp included free drug distribution, hemoglobin testing, blood sugar testing, triple serology testing facilitated by NACO, AI-generated chest X-ray screening, sputum examination by DTO Srinagar, and blood pressure and body mass index measurement.
Specialist consultation services were offered in multiple disciplines, including ENT, General Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, AYUSH, and Dental care. Patients were examined by specialist doctors and provided appropriate treatment, counseling, and referrals wherever required.
As part of the outreach activities, a school visit was also conducted during which specialists interacted with students and delivered awareness sessions on important adolescent health issues, including mental health, peer pressure, menstrual hygiene, and mobile addiction.
The sessions focused on promoting healthy lifestyle practices, emotional well-being, and health awareness among school children.
The medical camp witnessed active participation from healthcare professionals, postgraduate students, paramedical staff, and local health workers, who worked collectively to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme. Health education regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, nutrition, non-communicable diseases, and early diagnosis was also provided to the beneficiaries.
On the occasion, the principal appreciated the role and efforts of the Department of Community Medicine in organizing the medical camp.
