Srinagar, May 7: In a significant outreach aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and addressing the concerns of the business community, Faz Lul Haseeb, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), on Thursday conducted an extensive visit to SMC Shopping Complex at Regal Chowk and held a detailed interaction with members of the Traders Association.

During the visit, the Commissioner undertook an assessment of the civic amenities and infrastructure available within the commercial complex and listened to various issues projected by the traders.

The Commissioner resolved several genuine grievances on the spot and issued immediate directions to the concerned officers for their time-bound redressal.

A key issue highlighted by the traders was the need for extension and upgradation of the existing lavatory block to cater to the growing footfall of traders and visitors in the busy commercial hub.

Taking swift cognizance of the demand, the Commissioner directed the Joint Commissioner (Works) to initiate measures for the extension of lavatory block and ensure early execution of the project in the interest of public convenience.

The Commissioner further instructed the concerned engineering and civic wings to prepare and undertake a comprehensive upgradation plan for the SMC Shopping Complex at Regal Chowk.

The proposed measures shall focus on enhancing civic amenities, improving sanitation, upgrading public infrastructure, and creating a better environment for traders, shoppers, and visitors alike.

As part of the visit, the Commissioner also inspected the offices of the Executive Engineer, City Drainage Civil Division, and the Executive Engineer, Right River Works Division.

He reviewed the functioning of the departments and emphasized the need for efficient drainage management, timely execution of developmental works, and strengthened monitoring mechanisms to ensure improved civic service delivery across the city.

The commissioner reiterated that SMC is committed to responsive governance, stakeholder engagement, and improvement of civic amenities through field inspections and grievance redressal mechanisms.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Joint Commissioner (Works), Superintending Engineer (Drainage), Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer, and other senior officers of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

The concerned officers were directed to ensure follow-up action and effective implementation of all directions issued during the visit for the overall enhancement of civic facilities in the area.
