35-Year-old TV artist shot dead by militants in Chadoora Budgam

The slain was identified as Amreena Bhat from Hushroo Chadoora along with her nephew was fired upon by the unidentified gunmen, leaving them seriously wounded.

Srinagar, May 25: A 35-year-old TV artist was shot dead by militants in Chadoora area of Budgam district on Wednesday. A 10-year-old, the woman's nephew, was also injured in the attack.

The slain was identified as Amreena Bhat from Hushroo Chadoora along with her nephew was fired upon by the terrorists, leaving them seriously wounded. They were immediately rushed to nearby hospital, where Amreen succumbed to her injuries. The condition of her 10 year old nephew is stated to be stable. 

Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital, Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh confirmed that the slain was brought dead to the hospital. She had received multiple bullets and was fired from close range. Her nephew is stable and out of danger.

Following the incident massive search operation was launched by forces to nab the attackers, officials said.

A police spokesman said ' at around 1955 hours, terrorists fired upon one lady Amreen Bhat D/o Khazir Mohd Bhat R/o Hushroo Chadoora at her home. She was shifted to hospital in injured condition where doctors declared her dead. Her10 year old nephew who was also at home received bullet injury on his arm.

“Three terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were involved in this heinous terror incident. Area has been cordoned off and search started. Case registered and investigation on,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this  crime, he said.

Following the attack, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel cordoned off the area to trace and apprehend the accused responsible for the attack.

Amreen was popular tiktok artists and had thousands of subscribers on social media platforms. Earlier she was associated with popular cable channels  and DD Kasher Channel.

 Earlier on Tuesday, policeman was killed by  militantsoutside his house in Anchar area of Srinagar district.
