Srinagar, Apr 12: Two persons sustained injuries in separate leopard attacks in Marchipora and Chandilora villages in the Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.
An official from the Wildlife Control Room Tangmarg said that authorities had been receiving reports over the past several days about the movement of a leopard in the Chandilora area. In response, the department had already installed a cage at the location.
The official said the leopard is believed to have taken shelter in an abandoned building near Gousia Model School in Chandilora. He added that a similar incident had occurred at the same location two months ago, when the owner of the house was injured in a leopard attack.
In the first incident, a carpenter identified as Abdul Rahim Ganai, a resident of Qazipora in Tangmarg, was attacked by the leopard while carrying out construction work near the abandoned structure. The leopard later fled the scene and reportedly attacked another person in Marchipora village.
“Both injured individuals were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Tangmarg. They have received minor injuries and are currently in stable condition,” the official said.
Wildlife officials said efforts are ongoing to capture the leopard and prevent further incidents.
On April 7, the Wildlife Department captured a black bear alive in Zandpal village of Tangmarg, where it had caused panic among local residents in recent days.
