Water Testing Lab employees of Jal Shakti Deptt demand salary hike

Posted on Dec 08, 2021 | Author Aatif Qayoom
Srinagar, Dec 07:  Water Testing Laboratories Employees Association working under Jal  Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme Wednesday urged higher authorities to enhance their monthly honorarium as per JJM 2021 guidelines.
Protesting employees said that even though government has approved their enhancement of remuneration, the department is not implementing the order.
The JJM temporary employees said 2% of funds under JJM guidelines are specially earmarked for water quality monitoring, but zero percent is not being utilized, adding most of the JJM funds are being utilized on construction works and other futile activities, but their wages are not being hiked.
The aggrieved JJM temporary employees said, “We had been recruited through proper procedure in 2012, till date only one-time enhancement had been made in 2014.
“We had been imparted skilled training before joining the department. Most of the candidates among us are more qualified than the requisite qualification in science streams. Each lab is conducting 3000 physio-chemical & microbiological tests to drinking water, & communicating the same to the Ministry of Drinking Water Government of India." the employees said.
The aggrieved employees said the Commissioner Secretary Jal Shakti department must convene an urgent SLSSC meeting on a priority basis, and immediately recommend the full honorarium envisaged in JJM guidelines 202, akin to other states.
Jal  Jeevan Mission (JJM) employees have appealed to LT Governor J&K (UT) to intervene in the matter.

If people don’t cooperate, we can’t save Dal Lake: Ghazala Abdullah

Ghazala Abdullah (GA): It was 2001 when J&K Lakes Conservation & Management Authority (LC&MA) formed Watershed Management Division in order to look after issues emerging from catchment areas and to address them as per the required resources available. Most people are not aware of our functioning. Dal and its catchment areas are like a bowl shaped. Once there is rainfall, all runoff and other waste from the landmass directly drains out into the Dal which becomes a reason the water body gets muddied and at many places chocked.
