Posted on Jun 23, 2022 | Author Irfan Yatoo
Srinagar, June 22: Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for a second consecutive day on Wednesday due to landslides triggered by heavy rains at various places along the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded, officials said.
As per traffic department officials, the 270-kilometer-long Srinagar-Jammu highway was blocked at multiple places along the highway due to continuous shooting stones and landslides.
“Around 1500-1600 vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway. Efforts are on to restore the highway as soon as possible,” the official added.
The official said there will be no movement of any vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar on Thursday in view of a major landslide near Dewal bridge which has damaged 100 to 125 meters of both tubes of highway.
“The NH is also blocked at Cafeteria Morh, Tunnel T2 and Battery Chashma where restoration work is still going on and will continue Thursday also,” he said.
The official further added that likewise vehicular movement from Jammu to Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Gool,  Banihal, Srinagar and vice-versa shall also remain suspended because of the closure of NH near Dewal bridge.
As per traffic advisory, people are requested not to undertake any journey on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and other mentioned routes till clearance work is completed.
On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Leh highway, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa.
Similarly, on the Mughal road, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu.
