Robotic-assisted surgeries can prove best treatment option for patients with urological cancer: Doctors

Manipal Hospital Doctors to conduct OPD for Valley-based patients at ‘Kashmir Clinics today’

Posted on Jun 19, 2022 | Author RK News
Srinagar, June 18: Robotic surgeries have shown promising results with the advancement of healthcare technologies, and stated that there is a need for awareness among the people regarding the same, experts on Saturday said.
Addressing the press conference in Srinagar, a team of doctors headed by Dr. Shafiq Ahmed, Consultant Urology, HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, New Delhi said surgical robotic systems and a wide range of surgical procedures are now widely available throughout the world, including India.
“With the advancement of medical technology, today there are many treatment options available for kidney problems,” he said.
Dr. Shafiq said robots have played a major role in the treatment of patients suffering from prostate cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer.
“With robotic surgery the result and outcomes are better than conventional mobility and it will undoubtedly improve the technology's use for the benefit of patients,” he said.
Dr. Shafiq said with a greater emphasis on standardizing robotic surgical procedure, it is critical to raise patient awareness of the benefits of a robotic surgical approach for urologic cancers.
“In the coming years, the scope and implementation of this treatment modality are likely to be the most preferred treatment option,” he said.
“This month we have planned to organize OPD’s for Kashmir-based patients in Srinagar and it will be held at Kashmir Clinics on Sunday, 19 June,” Dr. Shafiq said.
He said Kashmir has world’s number best doctors who are serving across the globe. I have been conducting OPD’s in Valley for past 10 years and I am getting good responses from the people. They have full faith and trust in our team,” Dr. Shafiq said.
“In future HCMCT Manipal Hospitals, Delhi is mulling to open a full-fledged branch in Kashmir to reach out the people at their doorsteps,” he said.
On the occasion, Dr.Hamza Shaikh said robotic technology has enabled urologists to perform minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopic techniques.
“During a robotic surgery, a surgeon and a dedicated team control the robotic arms and their EndoWrists, which grasp the surgical instruments from a console while operating through small incisions,” he said.
About opting for Kashmir, Dr. Hamza said he has operated many patients from the Valley and has had good responses from their end.
“Our aim is to deliver as per the expectations of patients. We tell the truth to patients about whether there is a need for surgery or not,” he said.
Dr. Hamza said during the past decade, the use of robotic techniques in urological cancer surgery has increased dramatically.
“The da Vinci Surgical System is the most widely used robotic platform and has led the way in technological innovation. Manipal Hospitals has a robotic and cancer surgery center of excellence,” he said.
Dr. Hamza said it has cutting-edge facilities for those with serious health problems who require advanced treatment and surgery.
“A high-definition image of the surgical field is provided by a camera that is inserted through a separate incision,” he said.
Up Country Sales Head Manipal Hospital, Nadeem Ahmad said they are India’s second-largest multi-specialty healthcare provider treating over 4 million patients annually.
“With its recent acquisition of a 100% stake in Columbia Asia Hospitals in India, the integrated organization today has an enhanced pan-India footprint with 28 hospitals across 14 cities with 7,000+ beds with a talented pool of 4,000+ doctors and 10,000+ employees,” he said.
Nadeem said their focus is to develop an affordable, high-quality healthcare framework through its multispecialty and tertiary care delivery spectrum and further extend it to out-of-hospital care.
“Manipal Hospitals provides comprehensive curative and preventive care for a multitude of patients from around the globe,” he said.
