Srinagar, Dec 18: Employees of Power Development Department (PDD) here under the banner of All J&K Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPECC) on Saturday boycotted work across J&K against the proposed privatization of PDD.
The protesting employees were demanding scrapping the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Standard Bidding Document for privatisation of electricity.
The PDD employees assembled at their respective headquarters holding placards against the privatisation of power. The employees observed protests to press for scrapping the privatisation of electricity bills.
The protest employees said they have put the four-point agenda before government and said if demands are not fulfilled their protest will continue.
The employees of PDD also hold protests at the Maximum district headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir in support of their demands, the main protest was held at Power Complex Bemina.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, JKEEGA president, Munshi Majid said the government should issue a white paper on non-fulfilment of the recommendations of the Unbundling report and the failure to create the positions as mandated by the committee at Gazetted and Non-Gazetted levels, regularisation of PDLs/TDLs, DPC of Non-Gazetted staff, regularisation of all PDD Engineers.
The protesting employees said, "Despite the failure of privatisation in Agra, Greater Noida and Orissa, the government is moving ahead without bothering to take feedback of practical aspects from Discoms, who are the real sufferers. In the name of reforms, the government is serving the interest of the private sector, gradually destroying the public sector across the country."

Ghazala Abdullah (GA): It was 2001 when J&K Lakes Conservation & Management Authority (LC&MA) formed Watershed Management Division in order to look after issues emerging from catchment areas and to address them as per the required resources available. Most people are not aware of our functioning. Dal and its catchment areas are like a bowl shaped. Once there is rainfall, all runoff and other waste from the landmass directly drains out into the Dal which becomes a reason the water body gets muddied and at many places chocked.
