More than 200 docs, para-medics of GMC, associated hospitals test COVID +ve in last fortnight

Doctors getting infected puts extra burden on health care system: Dr Salim Khan

Srinagar, Jan 14: More than 200 doctors and paramedics of Government Medical College (GMC) and its associated hospitals in Srinagar have been tested Covid-19 positive in the last two weeks.
Most of the doctors who were found Covid positive are from SMHS hospital Srinagar.
Professor and HoD Community Medicine, SPM, GMC Srinagar, Dr S. Muhammad Salim Khan told Rising Kashmir that over 39 doctors and 16 paramedics in SMHS hospital have been tested Covid positive followed by LD Hospital where 15 doctors were found positive,  Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh recorded 11 Covid cases of doctors, GB Pant hospital recorded 9 cases of positive doctors and Bone and in Joint hospital Barzulla recorded 7 positive cases of doctors.
"Doctors are getting infected and this has put an extra burden on the health care systems. So, this time is challenging for us," he said.
He said that for cancer patients, diabetic and other patients who have co-morbidities should not get affected by the current situation.
" The Covid positive patients who visit hospitals have mild symptoms and they recover within 5 days, but today (Friday) a 28-year old lady died due to the virus. So, the overall situation is alarming and people need to follow Covid appropriate behaviour," he said.
He said that there were 1st and 2nd waves of Covid-19 as well but this time people are not serious, most of them are not following SoPs , Covid appropriate behaviour.
" Masks, hand hygiene and social distancing. These things are a must," he added.
