Srinagar, Aug 16: A pre-dawn fire in the Basant Bagh area of the summer capital Srinagar has left the affected family in distress, whose twin daughters' marriage was going to be held in the first week of September this year.

According to reports, in the early morning, a fire broke out in a three-story house of a Mushtaq Ahmad Shiekh and in the fire incident, the family said "they lost goods worth lakhs, including the goods for the marriage ceremony of their daughters."

Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the family members said they were preparing for the marriage ceremony of their two daughters.

They said they had stored the goods of their daughters on the top floor of the house as some renovation works were going on the first floor.

The mother of the brides said that they have lost every hope as the goods for the marriages of her daughters has been destroyed by the fire.

”I lost everything in the blaze and I have no idea how I will readjust to normal life," she said, adding, "My daughters were scheduled to get married after fifteen days, but the tragic incident has shattered our dreams."

“We had bought everything, like clothes, gold etc for my daughters but we lost it all in the fire," she said.

Talking about how the fire broke out, she said that a neighbour knocked on their door early morning and informed them that a fire has erupted in their house.

“It was not less than a nightmare for us. We have lost everything in the blaze,” she said, adding that "gold worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed and cash was reduced to ashes in the massive fire."

The house owner, who is a former employee at Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), said, "I am retired. I lost everything that I have earned so far," adding that "there are no hopes left now and the family is in distress."

“We have not only lost the household items but also all our earnings including the items which we had purchased for the marriage of my daughters," he said.

Locals said soon after the fire erupted in the house, they started dousing the flames and were later joined by the Fire and Emergency Service. "Till we managed to douse the flames, everything was gutted," they said.

Meanwhile, the affected family members requested to LG led administration for immediate help so that the family will be able to wed their daughters on the scheduled date and time.
