Local youth not interested in terror activities: Lt Gen Pandey

‘120 to 140 terrorists ready to infiltrate, army ready to respond’

Posted on May 02, 2022 | Author Irfan Yattoo
Srinagar, May 01: General officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey Sunday said youth of Kashmir are no more interested in terror activities and stated that over the past two years, there is a steep fall in the local terror recruitment.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of a sports event in Shopian, the GoC said, “The youth of Kashmir realized that path to terrorism is futile and over the past two years, the recruitment of locals has decreased. The terrorists who are getting killed are mostly coming from outside,” he said.
“People of Shopian are no longer supporting terrorism and they have stopped their support to such activities. With the help of local support, terror activities have declined in the district,” he added.
Responding to the radicalization of youth on social media, Lt Gen Pandey said, “Our youth have to understand these things and such traps. They should serve their nation with education. If their energy will be used in a positive way, it will be the best reward for the entire nation.”
About infiltration along LoC, GoC Pandey said that over the past four months, several attempts were made but all were foiled.
“Over 140 terrorists are ready on launch pads to infiltrate. They do not have courage to infiltrate to this side as they know there is no longer a support system present on LoC or in the hinterland,” he said.
The GoC Pandey added they are ready to help everyone who wants to give up the path of guns and come to the mainstream. The youth of Kashmir have come to understand that life is created only through peace, he said.
