In compliance with COVID SOP’s, city markets shut post-Friday prayers

Posted on Jan 29, 2022 | Author Irfan A Mir
Srinagar, Jan 28: Following the orders of weekend lockdown by divisional administration, the summer capital Srinagar witnessed shutdown post-Friday prayers. The traffic movement in the city and elsewhere also witnessed a decline as people preferred to stay indoors to avoid the contract of virus.

Reports reaching to Rising Kashmir said that district administration had deputed teams of police and civil officials in city and peripheries along with public address systems installed on Government vehicles, making a repeated announcement to people to act upon the weekend lockdown guidelines strictly.

In the city’s commercial hub Lal Chowk, Amira Kadal, Maharaja Bazar, Goni Khan, Residency Road, MA Road, Dalgate, Batamaloo and other police vehicles were seen making announcements, asking shopkeepers, traders and vendors to close their ventures by 02:00 pm in the day till Monday 06:00 am.

Similarly, in uptown areas of the city, Government officials were seen moving and asking people to follow weekend lockdown guidelines.

Meanwhile soon people offered Friday congregational prayers, the shopkeepers started to down their shutters and vendors were seen assembling their goods. The vehicular movement was also seen a decline in the city and peripheries.

Notably Government of Jammu and Kashmir last week extended the weekend lockdown and asked all Deputy Commissioners to enforce the updated order in their jurisdiction in letter and spirit.

“There shall be complete restrictions on the movement of non-essential services in the entire UT of Jammu and Kashmir from Friday 02:00 pm to Monday 06:00 am", the fresh order stated.

Once there is rainfall, all runoff and other waste from the landmass directly drains out into the Dal which becomes a reason the water body gets muddied and at many places chocked.
