Govt sacks 6 teachers for their ‘unauthorized absence’ from official duties

Posted on Jan 15, 2022 | Author Riyaz Bhat
Srinagar, Jan 14: The government Friday sacked six teachers of the School Education Department for their unauthorized absence from their official duties.
Besides, three other teachers were also terminated two days back on Wednesday.
According to the different orders issued by the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Tassaduq Hussain Mir, the sacked teachers were found absent “un-authorizedly” from their professional duties.
In one of the orders issued by DSEK, Mir said, “Aijaz Ahmad Bhat was appointed in the department as teacher on 7th April 2015 and was subsequently posted at Government Primary School (GPS) Shuloora, Kupwara.”
“He joined on 8th April 2015 and from the next day on April-05-2015, he remained un-authorizedly absent from his legitimate duties and despite providing enough opportunities to the absconding teacher to resume his duties by the Drawing and Disbursing officer, he neither responded to the notices nor resumed his duties,” reads the order.
The order further stated that the teacher was again provided opportunity by DSEK on June-07-2021 through a joint show cause notice, wherein he was directed to present himself before DSEK along with statement of defense within seven days failing which action as warranted under rules shall be initiated against him without serving further notice.
“The teacher neither presented himself before DSEK nor responded to these notices, indicating thereby that he is not interested to work in the department,” it reads.
Mir said, “Un-authorized absence from duties attracts action as warranted in terms of article 113 of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Rules (Volume I) of 1956, which reads as, “After five years of continuous absence on leave an officer is considered to be out of state employee.”
“The issue was placed before the Designated Committee in its meeting held on December-11-2021 and after examining the case, the committee said, “Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, teacher, GPS Shuloora, Kupwara is hereby removed from the Government service in terms of Article 113 of JK Civil Services Rules (Volume I) of 1956 and rule 30(vii) of J&KCCA rules 1956,” reads the order.
Besides, the other teachers who were terminated from the services for remaining absent un-authorizedly from their duties include Saima Gani who was posted at Boys Higher Secondary School Zadibal Srinagar, Suhail Anees, Mohmmad Rafiq Khan, Sheetal Bhat and Nazia Mushtaq.
Among the teachers who were terminated from services on Wednesday include Arumella Koul, Ranjeet Kour and Sunil Kumar Raina.
The government earlier has said that a huge number of employees of the School Education Department were not performing their duties to the level of expectations that was leading to huge dip in dropout rate and lower outcomes.
Besides, the government has also said it becomes inevitable to identify the ‘non-working or deadwood’ in both teaching and non-teaching faculty.
