Four JNLM hospital employees injured while averting major fire incident

Oxygen plant worth 5 crores saved

Srinagar, Jan 24: As many as four employees of Jawhar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) hospital in Rainawari, Srinagar, suffered injuries while averting a major fire in the institution.
As per officials, the rooftop of the oxygen plant caught fire. The employees present there swung into action and averted the major fire.
Dr Bilkees JNLM Deputy Superintendent told Rising Kashmir, a major tragedy was averted when the oxygen plant room roof caught fire while welding was being done and the roof's PVC sheets caught fire. 
She said, "The plant room has four 4000 LPM oxygen generation plants, and luckily the top floor harbours two 2000 LPM plants, both were closed."
It was all the timely efforts of four hospital staff members including Mohammad Yasir Lab technician NHM, Shahnawaz Ahmad Dialysis technician NHM, Mohammad Haneef and Fayaz Ahmad, both in Incharge Security. 
All four jumped inside the plant room, along with fire extinguishers from the hospital's IPD Building, and doused the flames.
Meanwhile, an official of the Fire and Emergency Department Kashmir confirmed the fire incident to Rising Kashmir and said at 12:55 pm they received a call from the scene.
Following that, the firemen pressed the spot. He also said the fire damaged the roof partially. 
The timely intervention of hospital employees and firemen has saved oxygen plants worth 5 lakhs, the officer added.
