Dilapidated link roads connecting Shalimar with Foreshore irks locals, commuters

Posted on Jul 31, 2021 | Author Aatif Qayoom
Srinagar, July 30: Scores of residents, concerned citizens and civil society members from the Shalimar area of Srinagar on Friday alleged that commuters are facing hardship due to the dilapidated condition of link roads connecting Shalimar Garden with Foreshore Road.

The president of Senior Citizen Form, Nisar Ahmed Mir on Friday alleged that the concerned authorities seem to be in slumber as they are not taking any cognizance of difficulties that the commuters face while commuting on these less than one-kilometre road stretches which run parallel to one another.

“Despite the fact that these two connecting roads serve an important link in reducing the time to reach to famous Hazratbal shrine and also to visit the shrine of Sufi saint MeerakShah in Shalimar, the authorities seem to be little bothered about its macadamization,” Nisar said.

Another local Ghulam Mohammed said the R&B Department macadamized Foreshore Road up to Brein Nishat this year and the macadam was also laid at various places on the road leading to Shalimar Garden.

Mohammed said the R&B department officials said the inner links of the city is being looked after by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC)

However, for unknown reasons, these two small stretch link roads were left unattended, causing hardship to commuters, Mohammed said.

They said that several link roads in many areas of the city have been macadamized recently and due to unknown reasons this important road has been left unattended.

The civil society members have urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner to look into the matter and direct the concerned officers to macadamize it as early.

Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the Concerned Councilor Sheikh Imran said the "work plan of the said link road has been sent to higher-ups and in the next fifteen days this stretch will be macadamized."
