Keran, June 22: The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan has helped the Indian Army to curb infiltration along Line of Control (LoC), said Brigadier Tapas Kumar Mishra, who headsArmy’s 268 Infantry Brigade in Keran sector of frontier district Kupwara.
Interacting with reporters at Phakrian Pass, he said that while the deployment has remained same, strict vigil was being maintained in the sector.
He further said that over the past 15-16 months, there has been no cease fire violation in his area of responsibility.
“Both the armies exercise restraint in the interest of maintaining peace along the LoC. The ceasefire pact is helping in controlling infiltration and keeps security forces alert,” he said.
Misra said modern surveillance equipment was used to enhance the vigil. ”Security forces wouldn’t lower their guard and are here to safeguard borders whether there is ceasefire agreement or not”.
“Troops have to be alert as the enemy is always trying to foil peace for its nefarious designs. Deployment is same and it has not been curtailed. We are maintaining close vigil and surveillance along the borders,” he said.
The 268 Infantry Brigade, which is manning and keeping surveillance of 55 km length of LoC in Keran sector, have placed multi-tiered deployment to curb infiltration.
“Some deployment is physical while some are electronic. It is a great combination of men, machinery and surveillance due to which we make sure that there is zero infiltration in our area. There were some infiltration attempts but they were foiled successfully,” he said.
About launch pads, Misra said they are getting continuous inputs regarding the presence of terrorists on other side of the LoC.“As we intercepted them and foiled infiltration bids, we believe there are terrorists within the launch pads who always want to infiltrate to this side. We are watching all the developments closely and seriously,” he said.
He said that there has been no reduction in the deployment of personnel and there was no easing in vigilance.
About the recent recovery of small pistols in the hinterland, he said the army has been deployed on LoC for many years and it was its duty to thwart infiltration of any kind.
“Yes, small arms have been recovered in the valley. I can assure that from our jurisdiction so far there has been nobody who has gone from or come to this side,” Misra said adding security forces are prepared for any challenge.
