Srinagar, Jan 04: A day after a video of vandalizing the goods of street vendors in Baramulla town went viral, authorities on Tuesday took strong note of the incident and put erring employees under suspension.
The Director ULB Kashmir, Mathora Masoom directed the Executive Officer Municipal Council of Baramulla to recover the losses suffered by the vendors from the concerned erring staff involved in such ‘inhuman acts’ and compensate the vendors accordingly.
The development came after the video faced backlash from the general public on social media platforms.
“The scene was quite painful as the concerned staff of the Municipal Council acted inhumanly towards the street vendors. These kinds of practices are bringing a bad name to the MC in particular and the department as a whole. I am expressing my strong displeasure with the Municipal Council of Baramulla’s action,” reads the order issued by director ULB.
The employees involved in the vandalism have been identified as Sheikh Sajad Parvaiz, Faizan Akbar Zunga, Sajad Ahmad Khanday and Nazir Ahmad Bhat.
On Monday, a disheartening video from Baramulla town went viral where the employees of MC can be seen vandalizing the goods of street vendors.
Soon after the video went viral on social media, the netizens demanded strict action against the erring employees.
A social media user, Mir Fareed, wrote, “Shocking 3 plus minutes of vandalism from Baramulla. One can understand the need to decongest roads and act against encroachments, but to spill and throw away the goods of poor street vendors is an unpardonable and gross misuse of power.
Police, local admin should take note and seek explanation, compensate this hand to mouth section”.
