2-day workshop on packaging of handicraft products concludes in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 28: The two-day workshop on the packaging of Handicrafts and Handloom products organized by Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Mumbai concluded on Wednesday.
 
The workshop which was held at Conference Hall, Kashmir Haat, Srinagar was addressed by experts who threw light on the packaging of Handicraft and Handloom products.
 
Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah threw light on the importance of adopting new packaging strategies for the products and assured the participants, especially the Artisan/Weavers community, that the department is adamant in providing all such platforms for their progress and prosperity.
 
During the workshop, besides hands-on training and demonstration on packaging designs, the issues-based discussions, importance of packaging, designing and improvement of current packaging practices were shared in the Handcrafts/Handloom Sector of J&K among participants. 
 
The session was delivered by Tanveer Alam, Director IIP Mumbai, Dr Gaurav Madhu, Joint Director & Regional Head IIP and Rahul B Tirpude, Deputy Director IIP through various PowerPoint presentations by sharing the success stories related to bringing in sales increase by adopting the appeasing packaging strategies on products.
 
Various prototypes were unveiled which include the prototypes for Paper Mache, carpet, Pashmina, silk, walnut etc. Apart from the attractive design of packaging materials information related to craft and artisan were also displayed on these prototypes. In addition, the information on QR coded packaging material that helps in the marking of genuine products and dissemination of information about artisan and crafts was also shared.
 
The workshop participants included the Cardboard Unit Holders, Artisans, Cooperative Societies, producer companies, officials of Handicrafts & Handloom Development Corporation, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Craft Development Institute and official of the Handicrafts & Handloom Department from all districts.
 
“The aim of the workshop was to inform the participants about product-based packaging which is the demand in this contemporary market competition," the officials told Rising Kashmir.
 
While applauding the role of the department for arranging such a wonderful workshop the participants, particularly artisans/weavers said that they have gained and enriched a lot through the two-day program and will adopt the techniques learnt in the packaging of their products and have also demanded that a centre of packaging be established in the summer capital of J&K so that artisans may reap its benefit.
