Jammu, May 1: Several workers are feared trapped after a portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in the Bantalab area of Jammu on Friday, officials said.
According to sources, a group of labourers was present at the site when the structure gave way during construction work. Initial reports suggest that five to seven workers may be trapped under the debris.
The incident triggered panic in the area, with locals rushing to the site soon after the collapse.
Police, civil administration officials, Army personnel, and rescue teams quickly reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Heavy machinery, including JCBs, has been deployed to clear the debris and search for those trapped.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of workers affected. Efforts are ongoing to safely evacuate those feared trapped.
A large number of people have gathered near the site as rescue operations continue.
