Srinagar, Apr 16: Police in Sopore have arrested three individuals for allegedly circulating misleading content on social media platforms in an attempt to disturb public order, officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the accused were sharing old videos and presenting them as recent incidents, potentially creating panic and confusion among the public. Acting on credible inputs, authorities registered a case under FIR No. 93/2026 at Police Station Sopore.
Following an investigation, the suspects were identified and taken into custody. Police said further said that the investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the dissemination and any possible links.
Officials reiterated their appeal to the public to exercise caution while using social media and avoid sharing unverified or misleading information. “Such actions can have serious legal consequences and may disrupt peace and public harmony,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities have urged citizens to rely only on verified sources for information and report any suspicious or false content to the police.
